Daisy the Hamster

In mid October we heard the patter of tiny feet, I had wanted one since the summer when Fidget the Syrian Hamster came to stay for the summer. Until then I never realised what strong little characters Hamsters where.

Anyway we decided it was time so we set of to Pets at home to buy my hamster, when we got there I went to check out the hamsters and B went to look at the cages. When I joined him he was like a kid at christmas, he was really pleased because they didn't just have normal cages, oh no, they had a Rotastak Space Command Unit. He was so taken with this cage that I cound't say no. So he picked the cage and I picked the Hamster.

After some thought I choose a little female Syrian hamster with beautiful long fur, the store said she was 10 weeks old. For those of you who remember Magic Roundabout she's a little blond dougal.

She is very gentle and delicate, especially when you compare her to Fidget who is a typical boy, into everything full pelt, particularly when he is in his ball.

At the moment we have had to remove the external tubes on the cage as she took to filling them with sawdust, she packed it solid but this pushed the two sides of the tube apart and we ended up with saw dust everywhere on the shelf.

Her other favourite trick at the moment is to put her food in the wheel, which looks nice and enclosed, but then she runs on it at night and when you get up in the morning and the food has sprayed out the sides and again covered the shelf. Now when she starts putting the food in there I move it back to her bowl, bless her she comes back and thinks someone has stolen it, hopefully she will look for somewhere more secure to hid it.

As Daisy settles in she will featured on the blog, I hope to have some video of her shortly.
